It’s only fitting the night Mike Tyson returned to the boxing ring that the infamous quote can be used for the Ryle football team.

“Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth,” Tyson said during an interview in his prime days of fighting in the late 1980’s, early 1990’s.

The Raiders (10-2) hit St. Xavier in the mouth and the Tigers didn’t even know what hit them, Ryle shooting out to a 38-3 halftime lead and sending shockwaves throughout the state with a 38-17 victory in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.

The tone was set on the first play from scrimmage, when Jacob Savage took a run 80 yards to the end zone.

“Always great to start the game off well,” Savage said. “O-line gave me great blocking and just trusted my speed all the way to get there.”

Dillon Smith then recovered a fumble, Nathan Verax later scoring on a touchdown run to make it 14-0 less than four minutes into the game.

After the two traded field goals, the rout was on as Savage ran for two more touchdowns and Landon Lorms pulled down a “You got Mossed” style catch in the back of the end zone.
